Gifted Ed Cross Sector Symposium

Building on the success of the 2025 symposium, this cross- sector professional learning day is facilitated by IST in collaboration with DECYP and Catholic Education. The event brings educators together to share practice, strengthen connections, and explore shared priorities.

About our Presenters:

  • Professor John Munro, Professor of Educational Psychology and Exceptional Learning, School of Education, Australian Catholic University and Principal Research Fellow and former Head of Studies in Gifted Education and Exceptional Learning in the Graduate School of Education, The University of Melbourne. John is an experienced secondary school teacher and psychologist.
  • Mark Smith, Author and Gifted Specialist Teacher, Mark is an innovative educator with over 30 years’ experience in the Victorian independent school system.  He holds a Master of Education in gifted and talented education from Monash University, Melbourne, and has long been associated with the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children (VAGTC), where he also served as president between 2018 and 2021. His work in gifted and talented education has seen Mark create and implement multifaceted school-wide programs at some of Melbourne’s largest independent schools. Mark is an author, having contributed to: “Differentiation for Gifted Students in Secondary School” Edited by Dr Susan Nikakis, in 2022.  In 2024 he authored “Mentoring for Talent” .
  • Doctor Amanda Harper, Amanda is a Gifted education specialist academic at the University of Tasmania, who has worked to effect change through government initiatives and who runs a private consultancy, Jasneath Education. Her vision is to make a transformative difference for gifted children and adults through specialised online learning.
