Making Literacy Improvement Stick
A Comprehensive Professional Learning Program
This evidence-based program is designed to help Tasmanian schools embed lasting change in Tier 1 literacy instruction across all year levels. Spread over five terms, the program combines research, practical strategies, and structured support to ensure literacy practices become part of a school’s culture rather than one-off initiatives. Drawing on the work of Dr James Mannion, the AERO Implementation Planning Resources, the Growth Coaching Model, and the expertise of Dr Selena Fisk, the program builds leadership capacity and supports schools to adapt proven literacy practices to their own contexts.
This program has been designed to deliver high-impact, sustained literacy improvement by building capacity at every level and embedding proven strategies into school culture for long-term benefit. It supports school leaders to lead instructional change through a step-by-step process while enhancing the skills of both literacy leaders and teachers. The ‘Making Literacy Improvement Stick’ series enables schools to implement a whole-school approach while minimising out-of-school professional learning requirements—limiting this additional training to only those leading the program.
