Having a rich vocabulary is one of the key indicators of student success in school, and indeed, in life. Explicit vocabulary instruction provides a pathway to building both our students’ expressive (speaking and writing), and receptive (listening and reading) language skills.

This session will cover:

  • Why explicitly teaching vocabulary is important
  • What should be taught
  • How to teach Vocabulary
  • Some practical examples of Vocabulary activities that can be used in the classroom

  • Focus area 1.2: Understand how students learn
  • Focus area 2.1: Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area
  • Focus area 6.2: Engage in professional learning and improve practice
