Being able to write well is a crucial life skill that can impact on a student’s educational outcomes and working life. One of the recommendations made recently by the Australian Education Research Organisation’s (AERO) report into declining student writing results, was to increase the focus on the teaching and learning of writing across the curriculum.
This practical webinar will explore the importance of teaching writing across a variety of learning areas in our schools.
It will highlight the positive impact of embedding explicit writing instruction in the content of the curriculum on student understanding, retention and knowledge. Links will be made to Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum where the Key Connections can be used to make meaningful links between English and other subject areas.
Finally, a couple of explicit writing exercises that can be used in any subject area from ‘The Writing Revolution’, by Judith Hochman and Natalie Wexler, will be highlighted as examples of what this might look like in practice.
