Session Abstract :
The Learning Trajectories, developed by the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO), provides a holistic approach to understanding and assessing children's learning and development progression from birth to 5 years.
Made up of 5 key domains of learning and development, the learning trajectories recognise that children's learning is not linear, and each child will progress in individual, but equally meaningful, ways.
Historically, developmental milestones have often been referred to in the assessment of children's learning and development, guided by an age and stage approach. As a sector, we are moving to a more holistic approach to assessing children’s learning and development.
Within this session, we will unpack how the learning trajectories differ from the developmental milestones, including how the trajectories are linked to the National Quality Framework (NQF) and can support educators to an authentic journey of assessment that honours and respects every child's individual developmental outcomes.
