Independent Schools Tasmania offers the first of two seminars for 2025 designed specifically to support Principals, Heads of School and Literacy Leaders implement Tasmania’s Minimum Schooling Guarantee that commits to embedding a Structured Literacy approach within an MTSS Framework in every school.
Session 1, will include:
- The Minimum Schooling Guarantee journey so far.
- Unpacking ACER's School Improvement Tool (see link below) through the lens of the Minimum Schooling Guarantee.
- Building your instructional ecosystem (Keynote Speaker Dr Ray Boyd).
- A step-by-step explanation of how Dr Boyd implemented the Daily Review at Dayton Primary School.
- Sharing of best practice from a local Tasmanian schools.
- Exploration of Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction improve teaching and learning.
- Focusing on the ‘next steps’ of implementation.
This series of seminars aims to support leaders to implement the mandated K-12 changes across their schools. Heads of School and Literacy Leaders are strongly encouraged to also attend.
Prior Preparation:
- TED Talk: A presentation about new ways to do medicine -- with fewer cowboys and more pit crews.
- Preview ACER’s School Improvement Tool.
About Our Guest Speaker
Dr Ray Boyd, DipT., MSL., Ed.D.. FACELWA., FACEL is the foundation principal of Dayton Primary School.
Prior to this he led a school that achieved remarkable improvement, resulting in his team mentoring WA school personnel as a part of the Centre for Excellence in Literacy initiative.
Ray's world is dominated by the need to improve teaching and learning in schools, having done considerable work with state and interstate schools in developing highly effective teaching models alongside their leadership teams.
Prior to his career as a school leader, Ray competed at an international level, representing Australia at the World Cross Country Championship, in the marathon at the World Athletics Championships in Athens, and was a member of the Australian Team that won the International Ekiden Relay Championships in 1995.
