Who is speaking
Current research has shown that using a Structured Literacy approach is the most effective and efficient way to teach children to read and write.
This highly practical session will focus on building teacher knowledge and practice in using a Structured Literacy Approach to teach writing to primary-aged students from Prep to Year 6
The session will cover:
An introduction to Cognitive Load Theory and how this applies to Writing Instruction.
An overview of Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) (the instructional model associated with Structured Literacy)
How to implement EDI when teaching writing
The Daily Review.
How to support struggling and/or reluctant writers
Some practical examples of transcription routines you can use with students to support sentence level writing.
Suggestions for timetabling and structuring your literacy block.
